Step into this market and you're stepping into a slice of the Balkans right here in Wolcott! For 2 thriving years, this beloved specialty grocer on Meriden Rd has been the go-to spot for authentic European pantry staples, imported goods, and traditional byrek - a flaky, hand-rolled pastry layered with meat, cheese, or spinach and baked golden in generous spirals, beloved across Albania and the wider Balkans. The location couldn't be better: Wolcott sits right next to Waterbury, home to one of the largest and longest-established Albanian communities in the U.S. Dating back to before WWI, Albania ranks among the top countries of origin for Waterbury's ~20,000 foreign-born residents - and the store sits in a plaza alongside complementary European businesses, creating a natural destination for Eastern European, Balkan, and Mediterranean shoppers. The numbers: ~$110K net annual income on a friendly schedule (Tues-Sat 8a-7p, Sun 8a-6p, closed Mondays), with a full rear food prep area - sinks, oven, and prep counters - that supports a menu of byrek and other premade & made-to-order foods. The operation leaves plenty of expansion potential for catering, expanded prepared foods, or a small cafe concept. The owners are turning their focus to another business and want this market in the hands of someone ready to continue to grow and expand this turnkey, highly-profitable, established business!
